50049 Defiance attended the November 2007 Valley Aid diesel gala at the North Yorkshire Moors Railway. This special mixed traffic event was held in order to raise money for the Severn Valley Railway to repair the flood damage caused earlier in the year.

The locomotive provided a service between Grosmont and Whitby (a class first) as well as some turns between Grosmont and Goathland.
