50031
Hood and 50049
Defiance at different stages during The Pixies Revenge tour run by
Pathfinder Tours. The locomotives worked from Banbury to Penzance and the return, a total of 720 miles for the one-day trip.
The tour carried people wishing to visit the Eden Project, attend the
Bodmin & Wenford Railway diesel gala or those wanting to re-live memories of when Class 50s worked to the furthest extremities of the Western Region. Although the tour left Banbury over an hour late, it managed to make up the lost time over the outward journey, arriving at Penzance ahead of schedule. For the author, it had been over 20 years since last visiting Penzance with locomotive 50049 - see
photograph.
