50007 Sir Edward Elgar attended the Class 40 Appeal June 2006 diesel gala at the Midland Railway Butterley. Two small Saint George flags were attached to each end of the locomotive to coincide with an England team fixture during the 2006 World Cup.

The locomotive provided turns from Hammersmith to the reversal point at Riddings and the return.
