50049 Defiance and 37425 Pride of the Valleys working for Arriva Trains Wales provided the motive power for shuttle services between Newport and Bridgend in support of a Heineken Cup rugby match held in Cardiff. This was another service train Class Fifty Operations Limited ran in 2006 with Arriva Train Wales, the two locomotives operating in a top-'n'-tail formation.

The Class 37 locomotive was deputising for 50031 Hood which was undergoing repairs at the time.
