40106 attended the April 2012 diesel gala at the
Great Central Railway (Nottingham). This was the first return of a Class 40 to GCR(N) metals for a very long time. When the route was open in the 1960s, the class often reached Leicester from Sheffield (Victoria) traversing this stretch of the former mainline.
The locomotive provided turns from Ruddington to Loughborough and the return.
