Whilst operating with British Rail (BR) all locomotives had a locomotive repair book placed in one of the cabs. In these, drivers would list problems or faults they had found with a locomotive whilst in service requiring rectification by maintenance staff back at a depot.

This example is the last one issued to locomotive 50047 Swiftsure in March 1988. The final entry lists the failure between Liss and Liphook which resulted in it being withdrawn from service in 1988.
